Grrrr. The "thing" came back last night and killed two more of our hens and injured a third.
We don't know if it was a coyote or a dog this time though; it was raining so there weren't any tracks. You gotta love going out in the dark at night and finding the coop a disaster (okay, not really). So now we have lost an over $120 investment in the birds. What's worse both birds were excellent layers, one being our prettiest Buff Orpington whose name was Lucille and the other was our gentlest hen of all; a brown Bovan named Spice. Emily's Buff Brahma, Dolly, was the injured one.
We're not sure what our next move is to be except wait and see if we can find out who the perpetrator is. We have some new neighbors who live down the road from us and they have a big female Rottweiler who has been coming onto our property but we don't have any proof that it was her. Or it could be Mr. Wile E. Coyote again. Perhaps he brought friends this time? When Emily and I went outside on Saturday night, the Bovan carcass that was left behind was extremely fresh, like minutes old, there were Orpington feathers in the coop but no bird and the Brahma was hopping slowly onto the roosting bar.
And the criminal obviously isn't afraid to strike in daylight...... Grrrrr.

you might call a ODFW trapper, or hunter to come and look at it, and see if ha can catch it.
One removed a beaver from our area a few years back.
Or, you could use the 30-06.
yeah we could call a trapper, but he might end up catching our dog instead, like the last time there was a trapper around here. Not fun.
And guns only work if you actually sight the animal.

you could go ask the people who own her if she has brought home any birds or anything like that...good luck!!!!!!!
Caitlyn - what is the name of the bee hive you're going to get? Any progress on it?
It's called a Warre hive, you can get a lot more info on it at: http://thebeespace.net/warre-hive/
We are still praying about getting bees and really trying to make sure that the timing is right for this next step. I hope we do get to get the bees though! I've been waiting three years now for some hives of my own.
Although the rest of the family doesn't share my enthusiasm for a shipment of 20,000 bees.....:D

the king Big foot did it.
I'll have to talk to him about that.
No more Oreos for you! buster!
No, you should keep giving him oreos!! Then he'll be too full for live chicken! I wonder if I can sue, now that I know who is responsible..... LOL.
