The End...

I suppose it's high time I wrote this post... I was talking with my sisters about doing it the other day, and figured I should do it now.

This is the official end to 'King's Child'.

My sisters and I are still quite close, and we still do a lot together. but we've gone our own separate ways when it comes to the world of blogging. I'll still leave this blog exactly as it is, for visitors and for ourselves, so we can look back and laugh at ourselves in a few year's time (well, not even that long. We laugh just reading through our old posts!), but please do not come here expecting new posts. This blog is now a dusty archive.

You can find Megan's humorous, witty blog at www.patriotspen.blogspot.com

Emily's blog photography blog is: www.lifethroughmylens-emily.blogspot.com

And my blog is: www.lifeatmennageriefarm.blogspot.com

Thank you everyone for sticking with us so long, and for commenting! You have no idea how much it meant to us when someone left a comment! We fairly beamed the whole day! ;)

And now, good bye friends... I must hop off to go finish my day. :)

Content...

Shocking, huh? I'm actually doing a post on this seemingly abandoned blog.

Through the past couple of months, I have begun seeing changes in life. People I know are courting, or being courted, friends are engaged, my big brother is going to be married next spring, a friend just had her first child... Things are changing and I can't do a thing about it.

Amidst all of this change, how do I feel about my state of singleness that I find myself in, at the age of 19? I will be perfectly honest with y'all and say that I am:

Content.

It's the honest-to-goodness truth. I am about as content as content can be. I'm happy for those I know who are moving on into the next stages in life; but I do not feel envious, jealous, or wishful. I do not find myself wishing that "Mr. Right" would hurry up already and find me. I am quite content to keep my status of being single.

Is it wrong of me to really not care that I'm single? Is it wrong to say that I enjoy it? I've never been the sort of girl to have those romantic daydreams; my brain is too full of questions that are all vying to be answered. I've certainly never been able to understand the whole flirting thing. Why do it, when you could have a normal, interesting conversation in which both sides learn something new?

Perhaps I'm just a hopeless case; forever to remain the spinster that I have dubbed myself... Either way, whether I some day get married, or I remain single, I shall be content.

The Finished Project

I sheared the alpaca, who's name was Ozzie.

I brought his stunningly white fiber home and carded it into fluffy batts.

Then I dyed it in varying shades of brown, buff, grey, and gold.

I spun the dyed fiber.

I plied the singles together.

I wound the yarn into a skein, and counted out 90 yards of it.

I started at the beginning, and worked my way almost to the end.

Now, what shall I do with it...? ;)

Need Is The Mother Of Invention

Or so they say...

Yesterday was our big brothers birthday, and one of his gifts was the LOTR, DVD trilogy. Buuuuut, the movies didn't come in a box, and for some reason, we all wanted them to be in a box. So we set out to make one! Some devious creature got a hold of us younger siblings, and we decided to make the box really silly looking; so Jacob made the box out of a cereal box, lots of tape and black construction paper. Emily and I had thought at first to draw little stick figures of the LOTR characters, but then we had a better idea...

We decided to draw the Veggie Tales "Lord of the Beans", characters! Below is our finished product. What think ye?

Frodo, Gandalf, and Gimli.

Whir, whir, spin, spin...

"Gold is heavy, straw is thin. Turn the wheel with pixie purr; spin, spin, whir, whir!"

Okay, so NO you will not find me quoting Rumpelstiltskin while I spin; it just came to mind...

I am slowly getting back into my spinning habit. Last summer I spun for about five to six hours every day, but then, I didn't have 6 goats, a cow, and a flock of chickens, like I do now. ;) I'm content if I can spin for about three hours everyday.

Projects that I'm spinning right now are two alpaca fleeces, one Babydoll Southdown sheep fleece, 7 lbs. of Dorset sheep wool, and I might be getting some Coopworth sheep wool soon.

I'm still hoping to start dyeing wool by summertime. I have a whole sketch book filled with what I call "colorways". In short, it's just a bunch of organized ideas for dyed wool. 'Sands of Re,' 'In Dreams', 'Puget Sound', 'Lost at Sea'.... These are all names of skeins yet to come... Yarns dyed brilliant colors, beads plied into the silken strands, lace weights, fingering weights, bulky weights.... The possibilities are endless!

And so, these rainy days go by.... My spinning wheel is getting a workout once again, and slowly, slowly, skeins of yarn are appearing in my yarn basket....

Through The Ashes Of Pain

There is a little spot in the 98 acres that recently got bulldozed (to make entering the property easier for vehicles). That small spot was now a mess of broken branches, mud, and remnants of a small cherry tree. It looked pretty bad.

But despite the wreckage, a small patch of daffodils still came up and bloomed.

Even through the ashes of pain, they still bloomed.

That thought came to me today, when I looked at them.

They reminded me of myself.

These past couple of months have held some painful experiences for me...

But through the ashes of pain, my Saviour lifted me up.

And now He asks me to bloom for Him.

Father God, grant me the strength to bloom, even through the fiery trials of life. Amen.

Where Did I Go?

Yes, I know, I don't blog on here very often. I guess it's because right now, not much has been going on in life that doesn't have to do with farming. Aaaaand, I usually try to keep that over at my *other blog*.

Some of you already know about my farming blog, but I decided that it was finally time to announce it publicly on here. At first, it was merely a way for our farm customers to keep up to date with us and whatnot, but it's morphed into an all-around farming web log.

So, if you haven't visited yet, feel free! You can find the link either on my "blog list" on my sidebar, or you can visit it HERE.

Remembering those good ol' days

Winter, 2003

A friend recently posted on her blog, some memories she had of her childhood with her sisters. Reading through her post sparked off memories that my sisters and I have of when we were "knee high to a grasshopper".....

We led a pretty interesting life when we were little; favorite things to do included:

1. Playing cowboys, in which we would tape paper cow heads that we drew (we never could figure out why people couldn't tell right away that they were cows) to our bed posts and then have cattle round ups. Unfortunately, bed post cows don't move very fast.

2. Playing "Indians" which involved bows and arrows that were all constructed out of apple tree twigs and bright yellow yarn.

3. Catching Bumblebees and keeping them as pets in mason jars. At night, we would turn all the bedroom lights off except for one lamp and then watch our pet bees hover and buzz around the light. I think mom was blissfully unaware of what we were doing...

4. Playing town. It is really hard to play town with a total of three people. Emily was the banker (but never got any business since we didn't know what to use as "play money". I think Megan was the grocer, and our huge collection of Beanie Babies was used to fill her store. I was a detective and my job was to find out where all of our socks kept on disappearing to. I think I did occasionally get a bigger mystery, such as what happened to the Beanie Babies that were missing from the grocery store.

5. Having horse shows. All three of us were Certified Horse Delirious, and we would put all sorts of obstacles in our spacious backyard (everything from plastic lawnmowers to lawn chairs) and then pretend we were on imaginary horses as we ran at top speed jumping over our "fences" barefoot, and tried to avoid stepping on any bees that were hiding in the clover. If you managed to get over all the jumps without knocking any over, or getting stung by an annoyed bee, you won. ;)

6. Preparing to be Olympic champions. I kid you not, we did all sorts of stretches for about 1 hour every single day, preparing for stardom. Megan was going to be a gymnast, focusing mainly on being on the balance beam. We had no real balance beam, so we either used the 3' long edge of a bed's foot board, or we would unhook the ladder from our bunk bed, Em and I would hold it very firmly on its side and watch Meg precariously wobble from one side to the other. I was going to be an Olympic ice skater, but I can't remember what Emily wanted to be....

7. Go "spelunking" in the garage on rainy days. We would leave the lights off, and just use a flashlight as we pretended that we were in a dangerous cave that had hidden treasure in it.

8. Sing as terribly as possible and then laugh our heads off at whoever sounded the worst. Oh wait, we still do that...!

9. Start clubs that would disintegrate within two weeks. We still have a "secretaries notebook" from one of our clubs, and we laugh our heads off every time we open that thing. The dues were the funniest part. Here's a sample of what a club meeting looked like:
1 'o' clock p.m.: Old business discussed.
1 'o' 1: No old business
1 'o' 2: Dues counted. 13 cents.
1 'o' 3: Decided to use our funds to help homeless animals.
1 'o' 4: Changed our minds about the homeless animals. Not enough funds.
1 'o' 5: meeting adjourned.
We thought we were brilliant. ;D

10. Going "Ghost hunting". Now, I'm sure if mom knew what we were doing, she would have put a stop to it, but I don't think we ever told her. We painted smiley faces onto cotton balls and then hid them in our bedroom. Whoever got to be the "ghost hunter" had to use a flashlight and hunt down all the "ghosts" in our dark bedroom. We wanted to have spooky music playing while doing this, but since we didn't have any, the other two people who were not hunting would hum a song.

So there you have it. Now you know why we are who we are. Those of you who know us personally probably understand know why we are such a queer trio, but hey, those pet bumblebees sure were fun.

And you thought we were respectable... ;)

What Can I Say?

Other than it was past 10 'o' clock on a Sunday night. My family and I somehow got onto the conversation of Benjamin Franklin's Armonica, and playing music on drinking glasses. With a bit of googling, dad found this amusing You-Tube. Enjoy!

Wisdom for the day...

You need only two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct tape...
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40...
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
